In a Gartner survey from late 2024, 39% of candidates said they used AI during the application process (\",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-07-31-gartner-survey-shows-just-26-percent-of-job-applicants-trust-ai-will-fairly-evaluate-them\"},\"Gartner\"],\").\"],[\"p\",{},\"More applications don’t mean more good candidates. They mean more noise. I’d go further: applicant count has become one of the most misleading numbers in recruiting.\"],[\"p\",{},[\"strong\",{},\"What I’d do:\"],\" stop celebrating volume. Track time to a strong shortlist, interviews per hire and how many hires are still thriving at 90 days.\"],[\"h2\",{},\"2. Verification becomes table stakes\"],[\"p\",{},\"Gartner predicts that by 2028, one in four candidate profiles worldwide will be fake. In its 2025 survey, 6% of candidates admitted to interview fraud, either posing as someone else or having someone pose as them (\",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-07-31-gartner-survey-shows-just-26-percent-of-job-applicants-trust-ai-will-fairly-evaluate-them\"},\"Gartner\"],\").\"],[\"p\",{},\"That’s why verification sits at the core of Meetro. Every student’s enrolment is verified before they reach an employer’s shortlist. It’s cheaper and kinder to catch problems early.\"],[\"h2\",{},\"3. Skills over pedigree, for real this time\"],[\"p\",{},\"Plenty of companies announced they’d drop degree requirements. Far fewer changed who they hired. A 2024 study by the Burning Glass Institute and Harvard Business School estimated the shift touched fewer than 1 in 700 hires in 2023 (\",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"https://www.hrdive.com/news/employers-failing-at-skills-based-hiring/707897/\"},\"HR Dive\"],\"). The companies that followed through raised their share of non-degree hires by nearly 20%, and those hires stayed: their two-year retention beat their degreed coworkers’ by 10 percentage points (\",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"https://www.kornferry.com/insights/this-week-in-leadership/skills-based-hiring-where-did-it-go\"},\"Korn Ferry\"],\").\"],[\"p\",{},\"I’ll say it plainly: school name is a shortcut, and a weak one. For student hiring, “years of experience” is an even stranger filter, because students don’t have years of experience. Look at projects, verified work and how people perform on real tasks.\"],[\"h2\",{},\"4. The entry-level squeeze, and the opening it creates\"],[\"p\",{},\"Stanford’s Digital Economy Lab found that since generative AI spread, workers aged 22 to 25 in the most AI-exposed jobs saw a 16% relative drop in employment, while experienced workers in the same jobs held steady (\",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"https://digitaleconomy.stanford.edu/publications/canaries-in-the-coal-mine/\"},\"Stanford Digital Economy Lab\"],\").\"],[\"p\",{},\"Some companies are reading that as permission to stop hiring juniors. I think that’s a long-term mistake. Today’s juniors are your senior engineers, analysts and managers in five years. Stop hiring them and you stop building your bench. I make the full case in \",[\"a\",{\"href\":\"/blog/future-of-hiring-with-ai\"},\"Navigating the Future of Hiring with AI Technology\"],\".\"],[\"p\",{},[\"strong\",{},\"What I’d do:\"],\" redesign junior roles around AI instead of cutting them. And while competitors pull back, the best graduates will have fewer offers to weigh against yours.\"],[\"h2\",{},\"5. Campus recruiting goes multi-campus\"],[\"p\",{},\"This is the problem Meetro was built to solve, so I’ll admit my bias. Enterprise firms recruit at twenty-plus campuses. Most teams cover two or three: the ones close enough to drive to. So everyone fights over the same small local pool, while thousands of qualified graduates never see the posting.\"],[\"p\",{},\"In 2027, I expect the teams that win to reach students across many campuses without the travel budget: verified profiles, virtual events and one brief that reaches every school.\"],[\"h2\",{},\"6.
